Water Damage


DO'S

button.gif (933 bytes) If the outside temperature is above 60 degrees, use dehumidifiers if available.

button.gif (933 bytes) Use fans to circulate the air and assist in drying.

button.gif (933 bytes) Remove as much water as possible by mopping and blotting.

button.gif (933 bytes) Wipe furniture dry.

button.gif (933 bytes) Lift draperies off carpet, loop through a non-metal coat hanger and place hanger on the drapery
     rod.

button.gif (933 bytes) Prop up wet furniture cushions for even drying.

button.gif (933 bytes) Remove wet area rugs or other floor coverings.

button.gif (933 bytes) Open furniture drawers, closet doors and luggage to enhance drying.

button.gif (933 bytes) Move photos, painting and art objects to a safe, dry location.

button.gif (933 bytes) Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible. Hang furs and leather goods to dry
     separately at room temperature.

button.gif (933 bytes) If damage occurs during a cool season, leave heat on, if in summer, use an air conditioner if
     available.

DON'TS

button.gif (933 bytes) Do not use electrical appliances while on wet carpet or wet floors.

button.gif (933 bytes) Do not lift tacked down carpet without professional help. Lifting the carpet incorrectly
     could promote shrinkage.

     can begin within hours.
